Talks of a diesel powered Chevrolet Cruze has been making the rounds since past 18 months when General Motors first revealed plans. Cruze Eco-D will be part of 2014 MY Cruze range while sales will commence from second quarter of 2013.
AutoBlog reports, enhanced fuel economy will be a plus point of this vehicle which estimates peg at around 50 mpg (21.26 kmpl). The sedan will be fitted with a 2.0 liter turbodiesel inline four engine which produces 160 hp and 265 lb/ft torque which is up 20 hp and 29 lb/ft as compared to the 2.0 liter engine in the Jetta TDI. The engine will be equipped with AdBlue urea emission control system which will ensure that the vehicle is compliant with present and future emission regulations. AdBlue urea system is used together with Selective Catalytic Reduction converter to help control oxides of nitrogen diesel emissions.
The AdBlue solution consists of 32.5% high purity urea which is diluted in distilled water while Cruze diesel is fitted with a special tank exclusively for the same.
