Chevrolet Adra SUV launch delayed to 2017
General Motors’ SUV concept, Adra was on display at the Auto Expo 2014 where it was seen as a prospective competitor to present lineup of SUVs in the country such as Ford Eco Sport, Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and upcoming Fiat Avventura, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra S101. However, the company has announced that production plans are put on hold and only promise launch by 2017.
Chevrolet Adra SUV is designed by Indian designers at GM’s technical center in Bangalore with inputs from GM’s Australian design center. It was seen at the 2014 Auto Expo as a mini SUV in the sub 4 meter category and attracted a great deal of attention from auto enthusiasts who predicted immediate launch. However, latest reports state that it will only be in 2017 that the new Adra SUV will make its way to company showrooms.
In the mean time GM India’s new strategy involves focusing on sprucing up its present model lineup which includes Chevrolet Sail U-VA, Sail, Cruze and Enjoy. This is being done in a bid to enhance brand perception and restructure its product portfolio. GM currently occupies a 2.5% market share and will be focusing on expanding its dealer network and other customer centric activities prior to launching of new products in the next four years.
