In order to participate in the Be the next DC contest, you need to send your car design to DC Design. If they select your design, they will build a car around it showcase the same at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Apart from this, they will also offer a prize of INR 1 lakh to the winning design.
DC Design already has operational showrooms/workshops in major Indian cities (including one in Pune). They are also working on setting up a manufacturing plant, which will see the production of DC cars. Dilip Chhabria, Head of DC Design, according to ET, is setting up a car manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat. This new facility is expected to come up by 2014 for which the internationally acclaimed design firm is investing a sum of INR 60 crores. The new car plant will have a capacity to manufacture 3,500 units annually.
The first car to be produced from this plant will be the Avanti sports car. This vehicle was seen at the 2012 Delhi Auto Show and once ready for sale will command a selling price of INR 25 lakhs. This will be followed by a new SUV….
Dilip Chhabria of DC Design has said that he would like to limit production of each of his car models to just 4,000 units after which they would be phased out and new models will be introduced. All vehicles produced will be in the INR 25-30 lakh segment so as to keep them affordable to a younger section of executives and professionals in the country.
DC Design is also setting up a design school for aspiring auto designers. Already in an alliance with DC-DY Patil College in Pune, the new design school will be situated in Gujarat. A new DC Design luxury car showroom has recently been opened in Ahmedabad from where sales of 40 units are expected per month. DC Design also has retail outlets in major cities across the country which includes Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Surat, Mumbai, Pune, Kochi, Raipur and Bangalore.
