Renault confirms they would bring a sedan to India, the Influence within this year. That would be followed with the SUV Koleos launch by 2012-13. Manufacturing the sedan will be carried out at the Oragadam plant.

This French giant has tied up with Japanese automaker Nissan. This JV entails a Rs. 4,500 crore investment, and aimed at the setup of a manufacturing unit. The company is also keen at localizing products used at the manufacturing facility. This endeavor also looks forward to localizing content for the Nissan Micra to about 80%, from its current 60%.

The company has also been forthright regarding the need for India to resolve infrastructural issues in order to develop as a global automobile hub in order to increase supply of auto components to overseas destinations. Real growth in the auto industry can be expected from markets in Latin American, Asian, and Middle Eastern markets, in the near future.

It has also been speculated that the spurt for vehicles in the Indian auto market has kept the domestic economy afloat helping it cope with the global financial meltdown.
