BMW India launched the new 7 Series last month for a starting price of Rs 92.90 lakhs. At the launch, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India had said that they will soon begin the local production of their premium luxury sedan from their plant in Chennai. Today, they rolled out the first locally produced 7 Series.
BMW has revealed their new SUV, or as they call it, Sports Activity Vehicle, the 2014 X5. Apart from improved features, it comes with a promise to set new standards in the segment. Introduced first in 1999, X5 is now into it’s third generation, with the unveiling of this new model.
BMW in collaboration with Pininfarina, two highly revered names in the auto industry, have teamed up to create an outstanding and exceptional model. Unveiled and open for inspection at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013, BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso, is an elite model and will be powered by a V12 engine.
After losing its No 1 position to BMW in 2012, Toyota has once again regained its plum position as the most valuable auto brand. Toyota beat German rival, BMW to be at top of the charts in 2013 calendar year ranking first in BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands as per Millward Brown study.
As was confirmed in early 2013, BMW and Toyota have signed a four-point JV, to introduce better technology for their vehicles, increasing the use of fuel cell technology in their cars, electric drive trains and lightweight technologies. Under this JV, it is now reported that the first car is expected to be shown at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, in November this year.
BMW 1 Series Gran Turismo in an all new avatar with third row seating and seven seats was espied while on test. The model in spy shots here, looks very similar to the Concept Active Hybrid, a 5 seat model, which was shown at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
Back in April 2013, BMW announced that they will begin local production of MINI at their plant in Chennai. This makes BMW Chennai plant as the first and only one to produce the iconic MINI, outside of Europe. Today, they reveal that the first locally produced MINI Countryman has rolled off the production line.
How important are sales figures for car manufactures, especially the one’e selling premium luxury on wheels? One would tend to think that as premium brands are not driven by volumes, they would not care much. But, over the last month, we have realized that sales figures are very important, at least in the case of Audi of America and BMW India.
BMW is offering a specially conjured up Competition Package on their range of BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe models as an option from July 2013 onward. These are the company’s four most powerful models in their lineup and with a brand new package option will offer even greater dynamics where, vehicle handling, power and performance are concerned.
