South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry has revealed the list of top 10 cars sold in in the country. Volkswagen and Toyota cars lead the chart with 5 out of 10 cars on the top 10 list, belonging to them.
Mercedes Benz and Audi have increased stakes in ultra luxury car segment this year in India, with the launch of new S Class and A8 with Matrix LEDs. Now, its BMW’s turn. The world’s largest luxury car maker, is set to launch India’s first Hybrid car in the ultra luxury segment on 23rd July – BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid.
Launched last month in presence of Sachin Tendulkar, the New X5 has now entered local production at BMW plant in Chennai. Offered only in diesel variant, xDrive 30d, the locally produced variant of X5 comes with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 70,90 lakhs.
Next generation BMW 7 Series is again spotted testing, in Nürburgring motorsports complex, Germany. BMW’s flagship sedan was earlier caught during winter tests on snowy roads. Also known as G11, new 7 Series is expected to be unveiled in later part of 2015, for 2016 launch.

Automakers in the country such as Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, and BMW are taking fresh steps to ensure that their luxury models are priced lower to make them more attractive to the Indian buyer. These three auto majors are resorting to local assembly and procurement of engines and parts from within the country which in turn sees prices drop by INR 10-30 lakhs.
In the month of May 2014, BMW Group registered sales of 177,741 units, a record 6.8% growth as compared to the same month last year. In the history of BMW, this is their best May ever!
