Mumbai/Pune, April 2, 2014: Mr. Michael Mayer has been appointed as Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India. He will take over responsibility as the new Brand Head for Volkswagen Passenger Cars in India with effect from 1st June 2014.
Volkswagen Group India has sold 5140 cars in February 2014. For February 2014, Volkswagen India reported 3100 units sold as compared to 5200 cars sold in February 2013. This equates to 40% sales decline.
Volkswagen Group ended 2013 on a positive note, achieving targets, despite facing severe challenges in the economy. The year 2014 has also commenced on a favorable note, with worldwide sales of 1.5 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles delivered seeing a rise of 4.7% YoY.
A host of announcements have emerged from Volkswagen Group as the company has revealed that a successor to the Volkswagen Crafter will be built at a new plant in Wrzesnia, Poland. This new plant will create a minimum of 2300 new jobs while production will commence from end of 2016.
Volkswagen e-up! has been announced for China’s car market by middle of this year. This electric variant of Up! is powered by an electric motor and will initially be imported into the country while VW plans building the e-up! locally in China by early 2016.

Through January and February 2014, Volkswagen India sold 6,500 vehicles. When compared to 9,800 cars sold in the 1st two months of 2013, this equates to 33.9% sales decline.
