Volkswagen AG is on the 2014 Fortune Global 500 list which was revealed earlier this week. The eight largest company in the world and No. 1 automotive company by way of revenue as per Fortune Global 500, Volkswagen surpassed Toyota in the latest list. For 2013, VW was ranked 9th, and Toyota was ranked 8th. For 2014, its vice versa.
India is set to get the new Polo hatchback on 15th July. First unveiled earlier this year, Polo facelift for India will come with an option of both petrol and diesel engine. What has caused excitement, is the edition of a new 1.5l diesel engine, which replaces the older 1.6l mill.
South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry has revealed the list of top 10 cars sold in in the country. Volkswagen and Toyota cars lead the chart with 5 out of 10 cars on the top 10 list, belonging to them.
Volkswagen’s second bestseller Passat (after Golf) is priced starting from €25,875 (Rs. 21.01 lakhs approx.) for sedan version and €25,950 (Rs. 25.09 lakhs approx. ) for estate model. Volkswagen Vento TSI variant was launched on 10th October 2013, a few months after Polo GT TSI was launched (April 29). TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) petrol motor is third engine option in Vento line up. Unlike other Vento models that come in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline variants, TSI comes in only one trim. Launch price of VW Vento TSI is Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Volkswagen Polo facelift launch is slated for 15th of July 2014. Polo GT TDI is discontinued and GT TSI is not to be found. As a matter of fact, Volkswagen’s 1.6 litre diesel engine is pulled out of duty to bring in new 1.5 litre TDI specially made for India, to tap excise duty benefits. Volkswagen India has been unable to attract a fair share of customers to its premium range of vehicles in the country. The company also has to tackle customer complaints and a weak service base which has been making buyers turn to comparatively less attractive brands.
