Mahindra S101 shows XUV500 styled headlights in new spy shots
Mahindra is working on a new compact SUV, code-named S101. It is expected to be launched next year in India, where it will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport. Currently, the Mahindra S101 is undergoing test, and is spotted very often in and around Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which is where their R&D facility is located.
From the latest spy shots which have emerged, we can clearly see S101’s headlights, which are very similarly styled to that of Mahindra XUV500. This is the first time that S101 is seen with headlight cluster which seems to be the one which will make it to the production variant. It also features LED DRLs, probably benchmarking the existing Ford EcoSport, which too is now available with LED DRLs as accessory. Though, the rear lamps of S101 are still the same which were seen on earlier spy images of S101.
Mahindra S101 is being built on a new platform which will be powered by newly developed 1.2l petrol and 1.5l diesel engine options. Once launched, it will become the smallest utility vehicle Mahindra will ever have offered. Mahindra S101 will be a sub 4 meter SUV. It will be priced aggressively, probably even cheaper than Ford EcoSport which currently retails at about Rs 6 lakhs.
Demand for sub 4m compact SUVs is on the rise, not only in India, but globally. It won’t come as a surprise if the S101 is exported to markets in Europe, Africa and the US, where Mahindra already has footprint.
