Will Premium Nissan Terrano launch affect Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport sales

The new Nissan Terrano SUV will be made available in within the Rs 10 lakh price tag. By the look of it, Terrano is solid, tough and durable and is sure to appeal to a segment of SUV lovers in the country.

On the competition front, Ford  EcoSport remains in a safe place keeping in mind the 10 variants offered. This ensures a wide ranging price bracket allowing all who wish to own a EcoSport. In fact, 30,000 bookings were confirmed in the first 17 days of business. When compared to Terrano it’s clearly much smaller. Furthermore EcoSport was never presented as a premium SUV but offers all that one can expect in terms of comfort and safety in it’s high end variants. While the interiors may look peppered with plastic you couldn’t care about, this hasn’t been a deterrent in sales.

Ford Duster lends much to Terrano in terms of platform and infrastructure. While exterior design language for both SUV’s sets them apart, on the inside they’re more alike. Renault Duster has been a bestseller and suffered sales only in the hands of Ford EcoSport. It’s year long run before that was enviable. Now the question remains, will people choose to buy a premium Terrano over Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. The move will certainly give Nissan a boost in sales volume but would not propel them to the forefront in the sales front.

On its exterior, the Terrano bears two sharp headlights while its rear combination palms come with white graphics. Its machine finished 16” alloy wheel design is the most favored and it is the colored roof rail which chrome finish that attracts immediate attention. Terrano sides boast of straight crease across its lower half of the body which differentiates it from the Duster which is seen with an inverted ‘U’ like crease.

To be produced at Nissan India Chennai plant, the Terrano is designed to stand apart from the Duster on which it is based and will be available in 6 exterior colors of Fire Red, Sterling Grey, Blade Silver, Sapphire Black, Pearl White and Bronze Grey. This is Nissan’s fourth offering in India and comes after the Micra, Sunny and Evalia and is their first in the SUV segment.
