Porsche 911 Carrera S vs Corvette Stingray by Chris Harris
When one compares the exclusive German car, Porsche 911 Carrera S against the stunning new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, it will be difficult to believe that the Corvette, which costs as much as the optional extras on the Porsche 911, has managed to keep up.
Corvette Stingray priced from around $60,000 competes with 911 Carrera S which has a starting price of $100,000 with additional $60,000 worth of options. Corvette Stingray is powered by a 6.2 liter, small block, V8 engine producing 460 hp power at 6,000 rpm and 465 lb/ft torque at 4,600 rpm. This engine allows the Corvette Stingray to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 305 kmph. This is compared to the 911 Carrera S which is powered by a 3.8 liter flat six engine offering a total power of 400 hp while acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 4.3 seconds and top speed stands at 290 kmph.
Porsche 911 Carrera S, however, measured favorably against the Corvette Stingray in terms of interior space. Users far preferred the 911 in most aspects and agreed that interior space and comfort were compromised in the latter while in the 911 head and leg room was at a premium. However, speaking in terms of longevity, Porsche 911 has only just reached its half century landmark this year while Corvette passed it a decade ago.
