First batch of Tata Zest compact sedan have rolled off production lines and set for market launch in August. Launch of Tata Zest will be soon followed by the launch of Bolt hatchback which will be produced from the Tata plant in Pimpri-Chinchwad alongside Tata Vista and Indica.
Tata Zest is based on the Manza platform and will be presented to buyers in India in two engine options to include a 1.3 liter MultiJet diesel engine sourced from Fiat. This engine is capable of 90 PS peak power and 200 Nm torque mated to a five speed manual transmission or 5 speed AMT. Tata Zest’s petrol engine is a new 1.2 liter four cylinder, turbocharged Revotron engine offering 90 PS peak power and 140 Nm peak torque though mated only to a 5 speed manual transmission.
Bookings of Tata Zest, on a down payment of INR 21,000 have already commenced at company showrooms while the new Zest is expected to come in at a price from INR 5 to 7.5 lakhs. Tata claims that Zest is a completely new product, unlike any other Tata car till date. It is more refined, and tailor-made for buyers today. Once launched, Tata Zest will compete with the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Maruti DZire.
