Tesla Model S performs better than claimed: Motor Trend
Motor Trend has tested the Tesla Model S and has come up with a wide range of specs which are better than those released by…
Based on their tests, the Model S can do 0-60 mph (0-100 kmph) within 3.9 secs compared to the 4.4 secs specification provided by the company. The car completed a quarter mile drive within 12.5 secs at a speed of 110.9 mph which is 0.1 sec less than the details provided earlier. The Model S returned a mileage of 100.7 MPGe when driven over 200 miles, instead of the 89 MPGe claimed.
Though there is one claim which Motor Trend was not able to prove right. Tesla claimed that Model S has a range of 300 miles, but Motor Trend was able to drive for only 238 miles, at 65 mph, and without AC. But this is not a setback, instead this is a breakthrough. Tesla has provided us with a real car, that can actually be driven for over five hours without charging.
Motor Trend says, ”But the range that matters is really a psychological/perceptual one, not a specific number. Think about it: We drove from Fontana on the eastern edge of the L.A. basin to San Diego and all the way back to L.A.’s Pacific edge on one charge. Five hours of continuous driving. This is a breakthrough accomplishment that ought to knock down the range anxiety barrier that’s substantially limited EV sales.”
