The first of 2013 Skoda Octavia sedan from purpose-built India plant, rolled off earlier today. Skoda says that the new Octavia features great roominess, high functionality and incorporates latest technology, all this adds up to make 2013 Octavia one of the best value for money product not only in India, but globally. Skoda India sold 44,900 Octavia’s between Nov 2001 and Oct 2010. The car gave the segment a new definitions and brought luxury car to a larger audience.
Speaking at the official unveiling earlier today, Sudhir Rao, Skoda India MD, says, “The Octavia was launched in India 12 years ago and has enjoyed a cult status ever since. The Octavia instantly became a game changer in the segment and revolutionized the Indian auto industry. Since then, Skoda has come a long way in India, and the Octavia has been at the heart of our brand (even when it was discontinued). Now, with the all new third generation Octavia, which will be introduced in India during the festival season, we promise all this and much more.”
The new Octavia mk3 is built on Volkswagen MQB platform, it features best in class interior space (length 1782 mm). Compared to second gen, third gen offers 73 mm more rear legroom and 980 mm more headroom. Apart from this, it features 8 mm more front head room, 39 mm more front elbow width and 26 mm more rear elbow width. Boot space is at 590 liters.
In India, 2013 Octavia is expected to be offered in a price range of Rs 14.5-18 lakh. The diesel motor will be powered by 2.0l engine, generating 150 bhp and 320 Nm torque, while the petrol engine will be seen with 1.8l capacity, generating 180 bhp and 250 Nm torque. Mileage figures are yet to be revealed, but as per European spec model, petrol model should deliver in the range of 15 kmpl and diesel model should give 22 kmpl.
