Fiat defers Jeep India launch: Renegade on display in Geneva

Fiat had stated that their Jeep brand will be introduced in India by the last quarter of 2013. But, that time is long gone and the Jeep is yet to make its official entry into India. Speaking to Fiat India at the launch of new Linea in Mumbai, they confirmed that the Jeep brand will not be launched anytime soon. The plan to launch Jeep in India has been deferred indefinitely.

Elsewhere in Geneva, Fiat unveiled their first car that registers their entry into the compact premium SUV segment. The new Jeep Renegade will be powered by 16 powertrain combination options, the most ever on a Jeep vehicle. Renegade Limited will get a 2.4 Tigershark engine seen on board  Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart offering 184 hp and 177 lb/ft torque mated to a 9 speed automatic transmission. This 2.4 liter engine is also being offered in 4×2 and 4×4.

Renegade on display in Geneva (1)Renegade Trailhawk will only be available with a 2.4 liter engine mated to 9 speed automatic transmission equipped with a 4×4 feature with special Jeep terrain response control called Selec-terrain which automatically adjusts suspension, traction control and shift points according to five varying terrain conditions.Renegade will see a new My Sky – open to sky removable roof panel system thus appealing to a more youthful and adventurous set of buyers.

Advanced technology and the latest in safety and security features are highlights of this new compact SUV which comes in with award winning Uconnect Access, Uconnect touchscreen radios and full color instrument cluster. A total of 70 safety features on board the new Jeep Renegade include Forward Collision Warning Plus, LaneSense Departure Earning Plus, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, ParkView rear backup camera, Electronic Stability Control, 7 standard air bags and a whole lot more.
