Fiat, the Italian auto major has invested heavily on India to strengthen their position in the market. The company recently launched the facelifted Linea in India, while launch of Punto facelift, Avventura and Fiat 500 Abarth are being eagerly looked forward to.
Fiat Punto facelift will be launched by the third of fourth quarter of this year and will see revised bumpers and new head and tail lights. Interior updates will be in the form of a well designed cabin with premium fittings quite similar to those seen on the new Linea. No engine changes as the Punto facelift continues with 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter petrol engines and 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine in two trim levels. Price of the Fiat Punto facelift could be in the INR 5 lakh to INR 6 lakh range.
Fiat Avventura was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo where it was seen as a crossover version of the Punto. Positioned as a compact urban vehicle, the upcoming Avventura will be sporty and aggressive in stance and will see rear mounted spare wheel, roof rails and side cladding while it will be powered by a 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine offering 90 bhp peak power and 200 Nm peak torque. Pricing is expected at INR 6 lakhs with launch during May/June 2014.
The new Abarth 500 has been developed by Fiat’s performance brand Abarth and is being projected as a performance oriented hatchback. Buyers will be offered choices of petrol engine in two tune levels in the form of a 1.4 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine offering options of 135 bhp and 161 bhp. The Abarth 500 will sit on 17 inch alloy wheels and will receive a leather wrapped steering wheel and sporty seats to add to its appeal. Launch is predicted just ahead of the festive season in India with prices in the INR 20-25 lakh bracket.
