Now, as rest of competitors are successfully eating on Figo’s sales share, Ford decided to pull off a next generation design with the hatchback, and make it look totally cool as ‘Figo’ would mean in colloquial Italian. In Brazil, Ford has already unveiled a new hatchack – Ka. This is the Ford Figo for India.
Both, Ford Ka hatchback and Ford Figo Sedan were revealed earlier this year as concept, in Brazil and India respectively. From the images, you can clearly notice the resemblance between the two. Features in new Ford Figo will include electronically adjustable & folding mirrors, satellite navigation system, state-of-the-art infotainment system with MP3 player and phone charging ports.
New Ford Figo is expected to feature a new 1.0 litre ECOnetic motor that features Dual-command Twin independent Variable Camshaft Timing (TiVCT ). This new engine will be able to produce 85 bhp of max. power at 6500 rpm. Diesel variant will be powered by a 1.5 litre engine.
Current powertrain options include 1.2 Duratec Petrol and 1.4 Duratorq Diesel engines. Figo petrol features 71 PS max. power @ 6,250 rpm and 69 Nm peak torque @ 4,000 rpm, while Figo Diesel offers 102 PS topmost power @ 4,000 rpm and 160 Nm supreme torque @ 2,000 rpm.
Next generation Figo will carry totally new looks and features, hence price can be imagined to be higher than what current trims quote, but may be well within competing scope.
As of now, Ford India is under production constraint, most of which due to the huge demand for EcoSport. But, their second plant, which is located in Sanand near Ahmedabad, is to be commissioned this year. Once both plants start production, not only Ford EcoSport waiting period will decline, but the new Figo and Fiesta will also be launched.
