Humsafar Express unveiled by Suresh Prabhu, gets modern amenities
Humsafar Express, the new fully AC 3 tier trains consisting of 20 coaches and 2 power cars has been officially unveiled. Set to be offered at fares which are higher by 20% as compared to regular Mail or Express trains, these new Humsafar trains will abound in features and passenger comforts while exteriors will sport a futuristic look.
Humsafar trains are special class trains for inter city overnight journeys. They will have features not seen on regular AC 3 tier trains that include CCTV, GPS based passenger information, Braille displays, fire and smoke detectors and mobile/laptop charging points for each berth.
The fully air conditioned LCB – Linke Hofmann Busch, three tier coach trains will have display board in Braille for the visually handicapped while seating will be more comfortable with better padding, head rests and curtains.
The coaches have bio-toilets, a part of the Indian Railway initiative to ensure defecation free tracks. Toilets will also be seen with sensorized taps and hand driers while interiors will be completely odour free with special odour control systems.
Humsafar Express is being produced at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala. The trains are a part of the Modi Government’s ‘Make in India’ policy set to change the face of future rail travel in India. Cost of each coach is estimated at INR 2.6 crore.
