Maruti Suzuki leads with passenger vehicles in India and Hyundai, Tata Motors, M&M, Toyota vie for second spot

India’s largest car makers Maruti Suzuki India Limited is undisputed leader in passenger vehicles segment in the country. Sales are at their peak and stock prices are riding high while the company reported an 85.46% increase in total sales at 1,03,108 units in October 2012. Domestic sales stood at 96,002 units in the month of October.

Tata Motors is also making headway in terms of sales volumes while Toyota, 2012 registered a rise of 86.56%. While Maruti Suzuki maintains its top position, other automakers in the country are vying for the No.2 spot. Hyundai, Tata Motors Mahindra & Mahindra and Toyota are all in the race.

During May to October 2012, M&M sold more vehicles in the country than Tata Motors specially with their new lot of SUVs making an appearance and being in great demand. Honda and Nissan are also making headway on sales in India which has seen a major breakthrough in the periods April to October 2012 as compared to sales in the same period in the previous year.

As markets grow, demands increase and newer products enter the market, automakers are extending their product lines and distribution networks to keep up with this increased demand all in a bid to regain top positions and surpass competitors.
