Maruti Swift, DZire sales decline after Hyundai Xcent, Grand i10 launch

maruti swift sales decline

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, leading automakers in India, have revealed falling sales during the month of April 2014, where two of their best selling cars – Swift and DZire are concerned. The point to be noted is that that this decline in sales is being seen for the first time in years and attributes this dip in demand to seasonality and inventory correction. However it is also increased competition from competitors such as Hyundai Xcent and Grand i10 that have also contributed to its decline.

maruti swift sales declineDuring the month of April, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) sold a total of 16,008 units of DZire and 15,874 units of Swift, a decline of 17.67% and 4% respectively over sales in the same month in 2013. In view of falling sales and competition from other quarters along with lack luster scenario in the market, the company continues to offer discounts to boost sales. Discounts of INR 17,500 on an average across models introduced earlier this year are to be extended and will continue till market conditions improve.

In the meantime, MSIL is excited about launch of the completely new Alto K10, a compact hatchback in 2014-15. The company expects to see a boost in volumes with this new hatchback which will come in with a design language similar to that seen on board the Celerio along with automated manual transmission technology which proved to be a major attraction on board the Celerio. Alto K10 will compete with Datsun Go and Hyundai Eon once it is launched around January 2015.
