Mercedes AMG GT engine detailed, New photos revealed

After revealing the output figures of their new 4.0l V8 bi-turbo engine, which will power the new AMG GT sports car, Mercedes has now officially revealed detailed information about their new engine.

Mercedes AMG GT engine (1)Max power output of the 4.0l bi-turbo V8 heart stands at 510 PS (503 hp at 6250 rpm) for the Mercedes AMG GT. Peak torque stands at 650 Nm between 1750 – 4750 rpm. Built for their new generation racing cars, the engine is lightweight and efficient. Compatible with Euro 6, probably the world’s strictest emission norms, Mercedes AMG GT is expected to make global debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Mercedes AMG GT DesignMercedes claims that apart from performance, their new engine also displays next stage in fuel efficiency in powerful cars. This engine features amongst the best power/liter and torque/liter ratio in the world today – 128 PS/litre and 163.2 Nm/litre. At 209 kgs, this is also the lightest engine in its segment.

Mercedes AMG GT engine (5)Called AMG M178, Mercedes claims that it “stands out for its superior power delivery and motorsport-inspired performance.” Even though it is double the size of their smallest engine, the 2.0l which powers CLA 45 AMG, GLA 45 AMG, and A 45 AMG, the two are very closely related.
