Word around suggests Nissan is entering the compact SUV race in India, to fight with established products like Ford EcoSport, and upcoming ones like Maruti YBA, Mahindra S101, Tata Nexon and Volkswagen Taigun.

Nissan Kicks is already the closer-to-production version of Nissan Extrem concept unveiled at 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show. It is highly likely that the upcoming Nissan crossover which would be a little over 4 metres in length, would be based on the Kicks concept. But for India, to escape from paying a certain amount of excise duty, the Japanese automaker would be chopping off a portion to make a sub-4 metre derivative of the possibly-Kicks-based crossover. The concept measured 4.3 metres in length. Indian version is highly likely to be premiered at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in the first week of February.
