Interiors of the soon-to-be-unveiled Tata Nexon production model have been spied up close. Though the prototype carried camouflage at strategic places, one can make out that the basic design and layout have been inspired from the concept which broke cover at the previous Auto Expo.
Majority of the real estate on the dashboard is left unused and the AC vents are placed lower than usual, just like in the concept car. The production model gives the futuristic digital instrument console a miss in favor of a conventional binnacle with MID in the middle. The steering wheel is familiar but the designers have come up with an interesting design for the gear knob. We expect the top-end variants to offer a touchscreen infotainment system (probably a stand-alone display unit above the centre console).
The sub-4 m compact crossover based on the Bolt/Zest platform is expected to borrow its powertrain options from its siblings. A 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol engine and a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine would be in the offing with a standard manual transmission. Tata is likely to offer a diesel AMT variant as well.
The Tata Nexon will give the automaker access to a highly lucrative market segment which is populated by the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. The eagerly awaited Maruti Vitara Brezza will also join the party soon.
