Volkswagen eco Up! production in Slovakia

Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, Slovakia will soon begin production of the VW eco up! In March this year the company launched production of Volkswagen Up! which represents 50% of overall Up! production. By early 2013, the Bratislava plant will commence production of eco Up! with compressed natural gas engine and an electric engine called e-Up!

Investments into this latest production capacity have run into tens of millions of Euros and will go a long way in extending its range of conventional and hybrid cars. Preparation for the production of Volkswagen eco Up! commenced early this year with the company training over 1000 people for the job.

The new model requires construction adjustments, installation of new production lines and a host of other technical modifications which needs to be in place before commencement of actual production can begin. Investments have reached €1.8 million. Thanks to the CNG 50kW/68k engine of Volkswagen eco Up!, consumption will stand at 2.9 kgs of gas per 100 km while auto emissions will be 79 g/km making it one of the cleanest cars in the world.
