Volkswagen Polo GT TDI diesel discontinued

Volkswagen India has has pulled the plug on Polo GT TDI performance hatchback. Polo GT TSI petrol and GT TDI diesel were appreciated for extra punch they offered for a premium cost they came with. It is through Volkswagen dealers the fact has come to light, that production of 1.6 TDI diesel variant has ceased.

Polo GT TSI is powered by 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine with 7 Speed DSG automatic gearbox without paddle shifters. Max. power produced by 1.2 TSI engine is 105 PS at 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 175 Nm is generated between 1,500 and 4,100 rpm. Claimed mileage is 17.2 kmpl.

Past Polo GT TDI was powered by 1.6 litre diesel engine with 5 speed manual transmission only, giving out 105 PS max. power at 4,400 rpm and 250 Nm peak torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

Cosmetic updates such as brushed up front and rear bumpers, more chrome appliqués and changes in headlamps and tail lamps were seen. Silhouette remains the same. Interiors get a few revisions, like piano black trims on redesigned steering wheel and silver decors on dashboard.

Engine options would see no change in petrol variants, same 3 cylinder 1.2 litre motor for regular Polo and 4 cylinder 1.2 litre mill for Polo GT is expected to continue duty in 2014 Polo facelift. Diesel models will feature common 1.5 litre engine for both regular and GT trims with different power rating; 89 bhp in former and 104 bhp in latter variant.
