New Volkswagen Polo is South Africa's best selling car

South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry has revealed the list of top 10 cars sold in in the country. Volkswagen and Toyota cars lead the chart with 5 out of 10 cars on the top 10 list, belonging to them.

New Volkswagen Polo and Polo Vivo (locally made, larger variant of old Polo) are the two best selling cars in South Africa. During the month of June, the company sold 2,994 and 2,627 units respectively of Polo and Polo Vivo, as compared to 2,326 and 2,476 units sold in the month of May 2014.

Price of new Polo in S Africa starts from R188,300 (approx Rs 10.46 lakhs). After VW Polo, Toyota Corolla was seen on the chart. Toyota sold 2,117 units in June 2014 as compared to 1,992 units in May 2014. However, where Toyota Etios was concerned, May sales stood at 1,033 units while June sales dipped to 999 units.

Sales of Mercedes Benz C Class stood at 1,421 units in June 2014 as compared to 772 units sold in May 2014 while sales of Ford Figo and Ford Fiesta totalled 1,011 units and 789 units in June 2014 as compare to 867 units and 585 units sold in the earlier month putting the Figo in fifth spot.

BMW 3 Series sales during June 2014 stood at 964 units as against 760 units sold in May 2014 while also finding mention on the list of top 10 passenger cars in June 2014 included the Chevrolet Spark of which 850 units were sold, Toyota Fortuner of which 806 units were sold as against 698 units sold in May 2014.
