Next gen Suzuki Swift will receive a 1.0 liter turbocharged BoosterJet engine. This engine was showcased at the 85th Geneva Motor Show.
This is the same engine that will be making its debut on the Suzuki iK-2 concept, codenamed Maruti YRA as on date, in Europe. This 1.0 liter engine will be making its way onto other small cars from Suzuki in Europe and Japan.
The new BoosterJet 1.0 liter turbo engine will receive direct injection technology. Features of this engine are low overall weight, reduced displacement, high fuel efficiency and power output figures, claims Suzuki. No details of power and torque have been revealed as on date.
Both these cars, YRA and Swift, are scheduled for India launch (YRA later this year and Swift by 2017). But, it is not certain whether India will get the 1.0l BoosterJet engine or not. Considering it is a revolutionary engine, chances are high for it to be launched in India, but then again, all depends on how much localization Maruti Suzuki can achieve on the new engine. If this engine does arrive in India, it will be seen on a wide range of new generation cars from Maruti, including the XA Alpha.
In the meantime Maruti Suzuki India celebrated its 15 millionth production milestone. This makes them the first ever Indian car maker to achieve such a feat. It was a Swift DZire VDi that marked this historical milestone and comes in 31 years and 5 months after Maruti’s first car, a Maruti 800 was produced at the company’s Gurgaon facility in December 1983.
