Detecting fault in 6 BMW X5 xDrive35i vehicles, BMW has decided to recall the same so as to rectify the error. Even though the number is small, BMW will be replacing the transmission, wherein a manufacturing defect has been detected. Due to this defect, X5 SUV will not be able to park itself securely. The defect is such that even when the gearbox has been shifted into parking mode, the vehicle can still be rolled away.
These defective X5 vehicles were manufactured between December 19th 2011 and December 21st 2011 and will be recalled later this month. Authorized BMW dealers will replace these fault automatic transmissions free of cost.
BMW in a letter to customers has asked them to ensure that while parking their vehicles they ascertain that the park position is on "P" and parking brake is engaged so that the security of the vehicle may be ensured. There have been no reports of any accidents, injuries or fatalities due to these faulty transmissions.
