Honda planning to launch Toyota Innova rival by 2016

Honda Car India are on a product offensive. They have already announced three blockbuster launches for the year 2014, City, Mobilio and Jazz, which will expand their product range with the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, the two largest car makers in India.

Though the launch of these three new cars will test their production plants like never before, it seems that Honda India is ready to enter the big league. Currently, their sole car producing plant is delivering 10,000 cars per month, which will definitely not be enough once the 3 new Honda’s enter Indian auto industry in 2014. But, their Tapukara plant in Rajasthan will start car production somewhere in 2014, probably by 1st quarter, and add another 10k units to total output from Honda Car India per month.

After this, ET reveals, Honda India plans to enter the large MPV segment, with the launch of next-gen Freed. This will compete with the likes of Toyota Innova, which has single handedly ruled the segment ever since it was launched back in 2005.

Along with the new City, Mobilio and Jazz; Freed will also be on display at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi in February.
Slated to come in at a competitive price, Honda Freed will receive both petrol and diesel engine options once launched in India. Luxurious and spacious interiors, added cabin space, the best of safety and infotainment features and more is what one will find aboard the new Freed.

Large MPV segment is registering a growth in India, and this segment will further grow in coming years. Currently, the segment features Mahindra Xylo, Chevrolet Tavera, and Toyota Innova at the top. Both Honda, and Toyota are working on next gen version of Freed and Innova, and both are expected to launch in India by 2016.
