Michael Schumacher could very well bid adieu to his Formula one racing career after the 2012 season. His contract with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team expires then. Previously, Schumi retired from F1 in 2006 while racing for Ferrari, and made a comeback with Ross Brawn's Mercedes GP in 2010 having sat out for three years.
While his season with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team in 2012 may mark the end of this brilliant journey, it goes without saying that he is the most successful F1 driver ever with seven World titles to his credit, a feat that would be difficult to replicate.
While Schumacher has mentioned that winning an 8th World title was in his mind, there has been no real challenge to that end. The German legend has had a few glorious moments in the 2011 Formula One season but nothing that guaranteed a podium finish for him for Mercedes GP, though Nico Rosberg did manage to get there.
Former F1 driver, Gerhard Berger feels 'Schumacher's inability to match Rosberg' will mark the end of his career. In his words, "I do not think he will extend his contract. At this point I think it will be enough." "He has no chance against Rosberg. He will have to admit that at more than 40 years old he cannot beat a young driver at his level."
