We never thought that Honda India will be launching the Amaze sedan with such an aggressive price tag. After attending the media test drive in Goa, we expected the price of Amaze to be dearer by a minimum 50k, variant on variant, when compered with Swift DZire. Maruti Suzuki India offers Swift DZire at a price of Rs 4.92 lakhs for base petrol and Rs 5.99 lakhs for base diesel.
But, when Honda India announced the price of Amaze, we were nothing less than shocked, and so were the many thousands, who were waiting for the launch of the new Honda sedan. The press and media invited to the event in Delhi, too were surprised, obviously in a good way, as the price announcement was followed by a applause from everyone present.
The biggest shock or blow, Honda India delivered today, is not to their customers, but to India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki offers their Swift DZire sedan in the same segment. DZire is the segment leader with 15,000+ average monthly sales.
With the new Amaze, Honda India is not trying to create sales records, but offering car buyers a chance to experience Honda sedan in a price range which was not possible before today. But yes, Honda Amaze has every ability to create sales records and Honda Cars India is up for the challenge.
Honda India manufacturing plant in Greater Noida has manufacturing capacity of 120,000 units annually. They did not reveal on how much of this will be allocated to the production of Amaze, but we guess that the Japanese car maker would allocate around 5,000 production units to Amaze monthly, and vary later according to market demand.
Honda is also expanding their network of dealers across India in order to penetrate even deeper and in cities where there are no dealerships, Honda will take their brand to such cities via service camps. Honda India says that 63% of their new customers will come from Tier II and Tier III cities in India.
As far as maintenance cost of the Honda Amaze is concerned, Honda says, the diesel Amaze will be the cheapest to maintain in the segment, while the cost of maintaining the petrol Amaze will be on par with other petrol powered cars in the segment.
In petrol, Honda will offer the Amaze in six options, Amaze E – INR 4.99 lakhs, Amaze EX – 5.24 lakhs, Amaze S – INR 5.62 lakhs, Amaze VX – INR 6.60 lakhs, Amaze SAT – INR 6.62 lakhs, and Amaze VXAT – INR 7.50 lakhs. For the Amaze diesel, there will be four options, Amaze E – INR 5.99 lakhs, Amaze EX – INR 6.24 lakhs, Amaze S – INR 6.67 lakhs, and Amaze VX – INR 7.60 lakhs. So in all 10 variants of Amaze are on offer. The ABS will only be offered on the top four variants in petrol and top 2 variants of diesel. Here are more stories on Amaze covered by us till date.
