Bajaj and Hero register growth, get ready to launch new motorcycles
Sales during the month of May 2014 looked positive for two wheeler automakers in the country, including the likes of Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp, the two largest motorcycle makers in India. Bajaj Auto reported a 4% increase in total sales, while sales of Hero MotoCorp increased by 6% in the same month.
Bajaj Auto Limited, leading exporters of motorcycles and three wheelers, saw total sales of 351,436 units during May 2014. This increase in sales was both where domestic sales and exports were concerned. Domestic sales increased 4% and exports saw an increase of 40% during the past month with 156,179 units exported. Commercial vehicle sales increased 11% to 38,416 units
Hero MotoCorp also saw a marked increase in sales during May 2014. Total sales increased from 5,57,890 units sold in May 2013 to 6,02,481 units sold in May 2014. This increase in sales could be attributed to a new advertising campaign for the Splendor iSmart which drew attention to the companyâ€™s new i3S technology.
Hero MotoCorp sales during the month of May crossed the 6 lakh units mark for the second time following sales in October 2013 when the company sold 6,25,420 units during the festive season.
As far as new launches this year is concerned, Hero has already launched half a dozen new two wheelers. This includes – Karizma R, Karizma ZMR, Glamour, Glamour FI, Super Splendor, Xtreme, Splendor iSmart, and Pleasure. Both Hero and Bajaj will launch new motorcycles in the coming months. Bajaj is expected to launch the 200 SS Pulsar, KTM RC200, and KTM RC390, along with new Discover variants. Whereas Hero will launch the powerful HX250R sportbike.
Apart from this, in a surprise move, Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Mr. Anil Dua has resigned from Hero MotoCorp. Dua who joined the company in 2006 has been instrumental in helping the company evolve following parting of ways with Honda Motors in December 2010. Dua, will continue in his present role till June 24, after which he leaves the company to pursue opportunities abroad.
