BMW will be official fleet operators at the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. Besides their fleet of vehicles, the German auto major will be offering a more green transport accessory in the form of an i Pedelec Concept electric bike which when not in use will fit in quite comfortably in the boot of a BMW i3 electric hatchback. 200 such i Pedelecs will be put in motion as part of the company’s fleet support at the London Olympic and will be powered by an electric motor that generates its own power while going downhill while offering a range of anything between 16 to 25 miles on full battery charge.

i Pedelec electric bikes will be housed in the rear half of the i3 vehicle from BMW and this fold up cycle when docked inside the car can be recharged. It can reach a top speed of 16 miles per hour and is made of light weight aluminum and carbon fibre. The BMW i3 electric car will be priced at around £36,000 while the i Pedelec will come at an extra cost.

BMW will also open their first ever “i” brand store in London’s Park Lane on July 25th. Here the focus will be on sustainable mobility vehicles and will include BMW i8 and i3 hatchback while will also offer the i Pedelec electric bike.
