KTM Duke 690, RC390, Husqvarna in store for India over next 2 years
Following rise in demand for superbikes in India, Bajaj Auto and their Austrian partner, KTM Sportmotorcycles AG, have revealed that they plan on entering the Indian sports bike sector in a big way. They already have the Duke 390 and Duke 200 on the shelf, and now plan to enter bigger segment with Duke 690, RC390 and Husqvarna.
It was in 2007, that Bajaj Auto Limited acquired 14.5% stake in KTM which increased over the years to stand at 48% as on date. To add on to the increasing enthusiasm, KTM will launch more and more powerful motorcycles in India. Under the KTM brand, Duke 200 and Duke 390 are currently on sale in India while Duke 125 is produced in India but is exclusive for European markets.
Over a period of the next two years local production of the newly acquired Husqvarna (earlier owned by BMW Motorrad) range of bikes will commence from the Bajaj Auto Chakan plant, reveals PTI. They will work towards launching the Duke 690 superbike in that time frame. Apart from this, KTM will first bring a RC to India by end 2014. This could be in the form of RC390 or RC200, both of which premiered at the 2013 EICMA in Milan along with RC125.
