Volkswagen Touareg SUV winter tested as Snowareg with tank tires

Volkswagen Sweden has brought out a vehicle which has been nicknamed ‘Snowareg’. Specially built for the snow laden terrain of Sweden, where temperature dips to as low as -35 degrees C. Snowareg is based on the VW Touareg V8 TDI and is well suited for the harsh Swedish winters. The engine is capable of generating maximum power of 340 hp and 590 lb/ft of peak torque while there are modified caterpillar track treads added to each of its wheels which one would normally see on a bulldozer or a Panzer.

Various Volkswagen updates are added for additional comforts. These include a Dynaudio stereo, panoramic moonroof, dual zone climate control and last but by no means least heated seats. Originally constructed in 2011 for Volkswagen Sweden the Snowareg is powered by a 4.2 liter V8 TDI engine. This enables the standard model to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds. Fuel consumption stands at 9.1 liters per 100 km while CO2 emissions are at 239 g/km.

The Snowareg was originally made for Volkswagen Sweden using a rubber track conversion system provided by Minnesota Company Mattracks on modified VW suspension.
