Yes. Hero will not launch the Leap scooter in India. The scooter will first will be launched abroad, after which it will make it’s way into the Indian auto industry. Hero did not reveal the price of Leap, but they did say that this might be their most expensive offering till date, and hence it is logical to launch it in developed markets where the demand is much higher.
Hero Leap is a serial hybrid scooter, powered by lithium-ion batteries and an 8 kW electric traction motor with an on-board generator set powered by an all-new 124 cc engine. Transmission is via belt drive, direct from motor to rear wheel. Suspension is in the form of telescopic for front and spring loaded hydraulic dampers for rear.
Braking is taken care by 240 mm disc in front and 130 mm drum rear. Wheel and tyre size of Hero Leap hybrid scooter stands at 110/70 R13 front and 120/70 R11. Head lamp, position lamp and tail lamp are in the form of LEDs. Dimension of Leap stands at 1884mm x 850mm x 1162 mm (L x W x H) while wheelbase is at 1347mm. It has a fuel tank capacity of 3 liters, ground clearance of 140 mm and weight of 140 kgs.
Key features of Hero Leap are – LED lighting system, permanent magnet traction motor, near silent acceleration, top speed of 100 kmph, single cylinder range extender, less oil system, advanced fuel injection system, and regenerative braking.
