Hot Wheels surprise for 2012 LA X Games (Photos & Video)

One of the most famous scale model toy car manufacturer in the world, Hot Wheels is going to attempt a never before seen stunt at the 2012 Los Angeles X Games. We all have played with Hot Wheels, we have performed single as well as double loops perfectly. But this time, Hot Wheels has collaborated with ESPN for this action sequence in which two real cars will go around a 66 feet tall loop at the same time.

Attempts will be made to break the world record for racing two vehicles through a six storey double vertical loop much in the same way as children would perform stunts with their Hot Wheel mini cars. Two daredevil drivers will take their Hot Wheels up to 52 mph and enter a 66 foot tall loop. As they attempt to raise the bar, drivers will hit seven times normal gravity (7G) as they carouse through the loop.

Two teams Yellow and Green will be represented by Tanner Foust of Formula Drift fame and Greg Tracy, Hollywood stunt driver respectively. ESPN International networks will be broadcasting the feat live at 11.20 am PST on June 30th on ABC. In preparation for this great spectacle, experts have examined the loop thoroughly, spent time in testing the vehicles and calculating G Force to ensure that the record making stunt is carried out without a hitch.

Mr Tim Reed, Senior Director, Content Strategy, ESPN, said, “The Hot Wheels Double Loop Dare is a great addition to the X Games experience. We’re excited about our relationship with Hot Wheels and adding this entertainment spectacle to an exciting four days of world-class action sports competition in downtown Los Angeles.”

Last year, at the Indianapolis 500, Hot Wheels broke the record for the longest four wheeled vehicle jump when their attempt landed them at a distance of 332 feet. Speaking about their latest stunt, Mr Simon Waldron, Marketing VP, Mattel (Hot Wheels parent), said, “We’re continuing to push the boundaries of imagination by creating extraordinary real-world challenges that bring Hot Wheels to life on a global scale, exemplifying the fearless and competitive spirit of the brand. Our relationship with ESPN allows us to leverage the world’s premier action-sports stage to engage a passionate fan base who share our excitement of thrilling vehicle experiences.”
