Next gen Toyota Innova and Fortuner were initially expected to make their Indian premiere at the Auto Expo 2016 in February but a recent report in Gaadi.com suggests that the duo would be skipping the biennial event. The publication also reports, in a recent interaction with N Raja, Senior Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd., the top official hinted that the new Innova and Fortuner may not be launched in India in 2016.
Even though there have been no significant updates in the recent times, both the products continue the lead their respective segments in India. This could be the primary reason why TKM is not very keen on bring the next gen models at the earliest. Why fix things that ain’t already broken?
While there seems to be no imminent threat to the Innova in the family MPV segment, the Fortuner will have to face the incoming new Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer. Deciding against launch the duo next year would mean two years of inactivity for (2015 and 2016) TKM.
The next gen Toyota Innova and Fortuner will mark a clear shift up the market for the nameplates in India. Earlier reports indicated that the new Innova’s top-end price could go past INR 20 lakhs (on-road).
