In its sixth year, Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) puts students of schools and universities to the test to design, build and test energy efficient vehicles. The winning team is decided on the basis of the vehicle travelling the most distance with minimum use of energy.
Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015 is being held in association with Philippine Government’s Department of Tourism, the City of Manila and also includes private sector partners – The Linde Group, Hewlett-Packard and Michelin. The grand finale is being held in Luneta Park in Manila from February 26-March 1, 2015 wherein shortlisted teams will be showcasing their designs and ideas while putting their vehicles to the test over 10 laps of length of 1.2 kms each.
The teams will field Prototype and Urban Concept vehicles which can be powered by gasoline, diesel, electric battery or compressed natural gas. The team from Birla Institute of Technology and Science will be showcasing a prototype concept called ‘Eklavya’ and hope to make it to the final list.
The second round commenced from August 13, and goes on to September 8th wherein all shortlisted teams will be providing technical data on their vehicles. Judges will be evaluating this technical data prior to making final selection of teams to go on to participate in SEM Asia 2015.
